The information requested in this survey is used to compile statistics of the country’s labour force, particularly the quarterly series of employees. Labour force and earnings statistics play an important part in the general economic planning undertaken by Government. They are also of considerable interest to employees’ organisations and individual businessmen who wish to study the potential market for consumer goods and services.

The value of these statistics is being improved by asking you to supply not only the usual information on employees working 30 hours or more a week and who, following international conventions, we are describing as full-time employees but also on regular employees who work part-time (less than 30 hours a week, or less than 120 hours a month, where working hours are reckoned on a monthly basis), casual workers and unpaid family workers working for at least 15 hours a week (or 60 hours a month). We will thus be in a position to compile figures for the total labour force engaged in economic activity.

The information is being collected in terms of the Census and Statistics Act [Chapter 10:29]. In consequence, details in respect of individual returns are strictly confidential and will not be revealed to anyone outside the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) without the written consent of the respondent concerned.
